I've had four separate people ask me some version of the same question in the two weeks since D23 wrapped: should we push our trip to 2027?
I get why. Disney stood on a stage in August and announced Villains Land, Piston Peak, Monstropolis, a whole Tropical Americas expansion at Animal Kingdom, a Spaceship Earth overhaul, and the Yeti finally getting fixed. If you only read the headlines, 2027 sounds like the year Disney World becomes a different park.
It mostly isn't. So the honest answer to should you book Disney World in 2027 depends almost entirely on which of those things you were actually excited about — because the 2027 list and the D23 list are two very different lists.
Here's what's real, what's construction wall, and what it does to your booking math.
The Quick Verdict on Booking Disney World in 2027
Book 2027 if: you want Animal Kingdom's new Tropical Americas land, you're chasing lower crowds in the traditional value windows, or you want first crack at DVC resort selection while the 7–11 month window is wide open.
Don't book 2027 for the new stuff if: the thing you're excited about is Villains Land, Piston Peak, or Spaceship Earth's reimagining. None of those have announced opening dates, and the two Magic Kingdom lands are years out.
The one thing that's genuinely time-sensitive: the DVC booking window now reaches through early July 2027. Resort selection is best at the 7–11 month mark and gets worse every week after. That's a real deadline, and it has nothing to do with D23.
My take: 2027 is a good year to go and a bad year to go specifically for the new rides. Book it because the dates work for your family, not because a concept art render looked incredible on a screen in Anaheim.
What D23 Actually Announced (And What It Didn't)
D23 2026 ran August 14–16, and Disney emptied the drawer. The Walt Disney World announcements, in the order they matter to someone planning a trip:
- Villains Land at Magic Kingdom
- A Maleficent-inspired coaster and a Magic Mirror dark ride. No opening date announced.
- Piston Peak National Park at Magic Kingdom
- The Cars land going into the Frontierland area, with a high-speed wilderness rally plus a second family attraction. No opening date announced.
- Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios
- A suspended Monsters, Inc. door coaster. Portions of the land are expected to open in 2027, but Disney has not committed to a specific date.
- Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom
- The 11-acre replacement for DinoLand, now named Pueblo Esperanza. Three attractions confirmed: Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto (a family dark ride through the Casita, 50+ animals), Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, and El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a carousel with 22 characters. This is the one with a 2027 target.
- Horizons: A Carousel of Progress
- The Carousel of Progress reimagining, with updated eras and a Walt Audio-Animatronic, targeted for late spring 2027.
- Spaceship Earth reimagining
- Announced, celebrated, and given no date. Same story for the Expedition Everest Yeti returning to full motion and Dreamfinder and Figment reuniting at EPCOT.
What's Actually Opening at Disney World in 2027
Here's the honest split between "announced" and "opening in 2027." As of late August 2026:

Every date above is Disney's stated target, not a promise. Theme park timelines slip constantly — treat "targeted 2027" as "probably 2027, possibly 2028." I'll update this page as dates firm up.
The Part Nobody Puts in the Headline: 2027 Is a Construction Year
Here's the thing about a park-by-park wave of new attractions. Before anything opens, it's a wall.
Five announced projects at Walt Disney World means five active Disney World 2027 construction footprints, and the two that should actually affect your planning are the ones with no announced dates at all:
Spaceship Earth
This is EPCOT's headliner and its front door. A "major reimagining" of a ride like that is not a two-week refurb — the last one took months. Disney hasn't said when it closes. If your 2027 trip is built around EPCOT, that's a real, unquantified risk sitting on your itinerary, and you won't know until Disney posts the closure. Watch for it.
Magic Kingdom's Frontierland/Liberty Square side
Piston Peak has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is land that currently has guests walking on it. Expect walls in that corner of the park through 2027.
Meanwhile Animal Kingdom is the opposite story: it's been living with the Tropical Americas construction site for a while now, and 2027 is the year it starts paying off.
Dad tip
Refurbishment closures get posted to Disney's official calendar roughly 4–8 weeks out, sometimes less for the big ones. If you're booking 2027 now, that means you're booking blind on closures — which is normal, and fine, as long as you don't build the entire trip around one attraction. Pick a park day plan you'd be happy with even if your favorite ride is down.
The Real 2027 Deadline Has Nothing to Do With D23
Everything above is interesting. This part is actionable.
DVC's booking window is open for reservations through early July 2027. That matters because renting DVC points 2027 runs on two separate clocks, and mixing them up is the single most common way families overpay — I broke both of them down in when you book vs. when you travel, but the short version:
Clock one — when you book
Members can reserve their home resort at 11 months out and any DVC resort at 7 months. That Disney World 7-11 month booking window is when selection is best. Beach Club, Boardwalk, Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian studios go first and they go early. Book at 4 months and you're not choosing a resort, you're accepting one.
Clock two — when you travel
Point charts vary wildly by date. The same studio can cost 12 points a night in late January and 25 points a night over Christmas. Your travel dates set your price; your booking date sets your options — which is most of the answer to the best time to visit Disney World 2027.
Right now, spring and early summer 2027 sit squarely in that 7–11 month sweet spot. That's the window. It closes on a rolling basis, a day at a time, and nothing about D23 changes it.
The savings math
Disney's Deluxe rack rates in 2027 are going up — ticket price increases for 2027 have already been published, and rooms follow the same pattern. Renting DVC points has historically run 40–60% below Disney's published Deluxe rates depending on resort and season. On a 6-night stay in a Deluxe studio, that gap is usually four figures. 1. Pick your dates off the calendar, not the concept art
School breaks, your PTO, and the point charts. In that order. If a 2027 opening happens to land inside your window, great — that's a bonus, not a plan.
2. Decide resort before you decide method
Renting points only saves you money if you'd have booked Deluxe anyway. If you were going to stay at Pop Century, a DVC rental isn't a discount, it's an upgrade you're now paying for. Worth doing! 3. Get quotes from both brokers

5. Price the off-property version too, honestly

6. Leave tickets until later

Who Should Book 2027 — And Who Should Wait
Book 2027 if you're:
- An Animal Kingdom family — Pueblo Esperanza is the one land actually targeting 2027
- Flexible on dates and want your pick of DVC resorts
- Traveling with kids who'll be a better park age in a year than they are now
- Priced out of 2026 holiday dates and want a value window instead
- Someone who enjoys the parks as they are, with new stuff as a bonus
Wait if you're:
- Going specifically for Villains Land or Piston Peak — those are not 2027 trips
- Building the trip around EPCOT and unwilling to risk a Spaceship Earth closure
- Hoping construction walls will be down — 2027 is peak wall season
- Waiting on Monstropolis to fully open (partial-land openings are rough for a first visit)
- Able to go in late 2026 instead, when the fall festival calendar is already running
